Reports To: Purchasing & Logistics Manager

FLSA: Exempt

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL


Team Horner seeks a knowledgeable, experienced Buyer to join our Purchasing Department. The Buyer will work with other members of the Purchasing team to research, evaluate and buy products to meet our daily operational needs. The ideal candidate for this position is astute with strong analytical and negotiating skills and understanding of supply chain management processes. Being a proactive, positive team player with initiative and commitment to the Team Horner culture is essential.


  • Purchasing
    • Run daily/weekly/monthly reports, analyzing and monitoring stock levels to identify purchasing needs
    • Maintain minimum turn expectations within established Company parameters
    • Update internal database, assigned vendors and product information
    • Assist in processing all special-order items for HornerXpress Worldwide
    • Verify product availability and process branch transfer requests daily
    • Review and correct purchase order discrepancies
    • Handle all direct ship/drop ship orders, manage “stock out list” and handle emergency situations
    • Work closely with Inventory Control to manage part numbers set up process
    • Sourcing and Cost Savings
    • Identify potential new vendors and SKU replacements for better product availability; cost savings; delivery; lead time, etc.
  • Vendor Management
    • Enter PO’s for the assigned vendors for HornerXpress branches
    • Maintain reports for identifying fast- and slow-moving items and stocking trends
    • Clarify and correct purchase order discrepancies
    • Create quarterly worksheets for recommended stock obsolescence, write-offs, etc., to be done by branch for the “BIG 3” vendors assigned
  • Order Fulfillment
    • Follow up with vendors, track orders in transit to ensure timely delivery, expedite shipments and notify sales teams of order status
    • Request packing lists from vendors/suppliers to match purchase orders received
    • Report discrepancies to vendors/suppliers
    • Dispute charges to vendors when necessary
    • Liaise with Receiving, Inventory Control and Warehouse personnel to assist with order receiving, ensuring all products arrive in good condition
  • Freight
    • Work on freight requirements for assigned vendor orders and monitor discrepancies
    • Dispute freight charges to carriers or suppliers when necessary
  • Team Support
    • Work with other members of the Purchasing team to coordinate vendor orders and associated supply chain logistics for HornerXpress
    • Assist with requests from upper management
    • Other duties as assigned

  • Experience in the Pool Industry a plus
  • Bi-lingual a plus
  • 2 years of experience in Purchasing and Bachelor’s Degree or 5-6 years of experience in Purchasing
  • CPSM certification preferred
  • Ability to attend company training programs including seminars on campus and elsewhere in Florida, both in and out of normal working hours
  • Attendance to at least 4 monthly Team Horner meetings during the year
